Alex Ingram - Artist
Alex Ingram is an artist creating paintings, poetry and performance. He has a BA in Sculpture from Glasgow School of Art and a MA in Fine Art from Saint Martins School of Art and Design. He has exhibited at the Whitechapel Art Gallery and at the Bloomberg Space in London
His recent series of imagined landscapes endeavour to use the subject of landscape as a tool for the ideas and expression of form and beauty. This comes from the process of interplay with the mediums he uses and the final arrival of a piece of work where aesthetics are a cognitive activity.
Alex has exhibited his work both in Britain and abroad in galleries, festivals and as site specific work. He has also published fourteen books and completed five albums of his songs.
" Art enables me to make intuitive decisions and find solutions naturally. I think therapeutically this activity of making where play is started, worked through and completed is a process where problem solving can be practiced. By recognising this sensation, we can learn through it and familiarise ourselves with our ability to trust in a process we may not fully understand and give us the tools to work through and come to conclusions we may not have expected or foreseen. This sense of completion and surprise in the work keeps me engaged and rewarded. "
" As an imagined space I paint open landscapes in conscious play with the process ending in conclusions of beauty.
Sunrises and sunsets attract me as magical moments where the immediacy of the work gives me creative purpose and are meditations on the infinite potential between day and night. "
