Alex Ingram - Artist

Alex Ingram is an artist creating paintings, poetry and performance. He has a BA in Sculpture from Glasgow School of Art and a MA in Fine Art from Saint Martins School of Art and Design. He has exhibited at the Whitechapel Art Gallery and at the Bloomberg Space in London

"The object is the medium, in it is an innate purpose, a whisper of what is possible through its function, prompting the artists interaction, resulting in a poetic interpretation without a definite reading/realisation but a personal one.

My response to object/medium is a prompting of inspiration as if always there, an act of remembering what is hidden. This is the difference between an everyday object and found object, our own personal perspectives bring particular meanings from universal props.

I am interested in this moment and the space between object/medium and the poetic by occupying the moment through process.

In my work I inhabit the moment through painting, poetry, melody, photography and video art. My preoccupation is the idea of the performative. I am currently painting in the vein of Process Art with found form/metaphor as sunrises and sunsets in open landscapes. I am also interested in writing songs in free verse which have culminated in a series of folk songs touching on melancholy and narratives of loss.

I have recently found a synchronicity between the folk songs and past videos I have made and am interested in how they have the same intuitive resonance."  -  see YouTube in Links
